Dear visitors of the Planetarium,
as you may have noticed, on January 28, 2014 the Planetarium and Museo Astronomico was temporarily closed, with the Museo della Civiltà Romana, due to necessary renovation work to the building, in order to assure compliance with the current security norms.
We apologize with all visitors for the inconvenience.
In the meantime, the astronomers are working to reshape the activities of the Planetarium upon other facilities of the Musei in Comune network, according to what human and technical resources will be made available. We believe that during the closing period it is important to preserve the identity and the cultural offer of the Planetarium, as well as its relationship with the public.
The solutions to continue our educational and outreach programs are now under evaluation; we will keep you informed as soon as possible.
See you under the stars,
The Planetarium staff
Financial resources necessary for the redevelopment of the Museo della Civiltà Romana have been allocated today. With the funds, requested by the mayor of Rome Ignazio Marino and by the Municipal Councillor for Culture Flavia Barca, a tender will be called for the renovation works, which will include: the redevelopment of the exhibition halls , the upgrade to current regulations on hygiene and fire prevention, the safety of the area and the removal of architectural barriers .
These works will also cover the large model of Imperial Rome and the historic rooms of the Museum, the Planetarium and the Astronomy Museum, resulting in the immediate closure to the public of the Museo della Civiltà Romana.
"Finally, the city's best educational Museum will now undergo redevelopment works," stated the Mayor Marino and the Councillor Barca. "It was several years that these funds were awaited. The enhancement of our cultural heritage and of a museum complex like the Museo della Civiltà Romana, frequented mainly by young students, results from action like these."
